How to Log a Workout
To log a workout in IRONSLOG, open today's session — already built from your weekly plan — enter each set's weight and reps against the ghost numbers placeholder from last time, mark it complete, and let the rest timer run automatically. Marking the whole session complete saves it to your calendar and updates your progress charts.
What if today doesn’t match my plan, or I don’t have a plan at all?
You can add any exercise from the 873-movement library to today’s session regardless of what the plan says, or log a workout with no plan attached at all — the calendar, streak and progress charts pick up any completed session the same way, plan or not.
How do ghost numbers help while logging?
Every weight and rep field shows last session's numbers for that exact set as a greyed-out placeholder — not a pre-filled value — so you always know the number to beat without leaving the log screen or checking a separate history page. If you match or beat it, the field just gets typed over.
What happens automatically while I’m logging a set?
A session timer runs for the whole workout from the moment you start it, and marking a set complete automatically starts a rest timer — no separate stopwatch. If you enabled RPE on your profile, that column appears too; it’s off by default.
Logging a workout in IRONSLOG takes six steps, most of them a single tap:
- Open today’s log. It’s pre-built from your weekly plan with the day’s exercises, target sets and rep ranges already listed.
- Check the ghost numbers. Each set field shows last session’s weight and reps as a placeholder — the number to beat.
- Enter the set and mark it complete. Type the weight and reps you actually did, or accept the ghost number if you matched it, then mark the set done.
- Let the rest timer run. It starts automatically the moment a set is marked complete — no manual stopwatch needed.
- Fix mistakes with a swipe. Swipe a set to delete it, or swipe an exercise card to remove it, with a 5-second undo either way.
- Mark the workout complete. This saves the session to your calendar history and feeds your progress and analytics charts.

Do I need a workout plan before I can log a workout?
No. You can log any exercise from the library without a plan; a plan just pre-fills today’s exercises, sets and rep ranges automatically.
Can I edit a set after I’ve logged it?
Yes — reopen the set and change the weight or reps before marking the session complete, or reopen a past day from the calendar to correct it later.
Do I have to log RPE for every set?
No. RPE is an optional column, off by default, that you can turn on per profile if you want to record perceived exertion alongside weight and reps.
