Nutrition Logging, Explained
Nutrition tracking starts with a five-question intake that sets a daily calorie and macro target, then logs meals against 1,579 Indian foods organized into a plan by meal slot across a day rotation. Any planned item can be swapped for a macro-matched alternative within your dietary tier; AI diet generation (beta) can draft the whole plan for you.
What exactly does the nutrition intake calculate?
From age, height, weight, activity level and goal, IRONSLOG estimates daily energy expenditure and sets a calorie target, then splits it into protein, carbohydrate and fat grams based on your goal. The target recalculates whenever you log a new weigh-in.
How is a diet plan actually structured?
By meal slot (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks) within each day of a rotation, so a plan can repeat over several days instead of a single fixed menu. Each planned item is a real entry from the food database with its own calories and macros — nothing is a generic placeholder.
How does the meal swap tool decide what to suggest?
It ranks alternatives by how closely they keep the day's macro totals in range, filtered to your dietary tier (strict vegetarian, eggetarian, non-vegetarian). Every non-vegetarian planned item must carry vegetarian and eggetarian alternatives, and every eggetarian item a vegetarian one — a contract enforced whether the plan was built by hand or by AI.
What does AI diet generation (beta) actually do?
It drafts a full plan or regenerates one part of it (a single meal, a single day) from a language model, checks the draft’s macro totals against a tolerance around your target, and retries automatically if the draft misses by too much. The final draft is shown for review — it isn’t applied to your log without you seeing it first. This feature is in beta.

Key takeaways
- The calorie/macro target recalculates whenever you log a new weigh-in.
- A diet plan is organized by meal slot across a day rotation, not one fixed menu.
- Meal swaps are macro-matched and respect a strict veg/eggetarian/non-veg alt requirement.
- AI diet generation (beta) checks its own drafts against your macro target before showing them for review.
